Availability[]
The basic sword is first obtianed as part of the quest Get Yourself A Decent Weapon. After talking to Jan inside the abandoned farm house, the second house you will come across, you will find this sword in a chest on the upper floor of the abandoned farm house.
This sword is also avaliable throughout the game as a drop from certain enemies and by trade from various merchants.
